There are several reasons why people donate to charity, either in cash or kind. The primary driver for giving is the fact that there is someone who is in need and is expecting it from somewhere. There would be two reasons why people give – either there is surplus and does not pinch in giving away, or there is a satisfaction, a joy in giving. Let us ignore the former and talk of the latter, the joy in giving. Or as some people call it, the dignity in giving.
The altruism of giving back is due to an innate human desire to wish for a collective well-being. In the complex web of existence that we are in, every action that echoes through the lives of others works to untangle this complexity and dismantle artificially created levels. We find ourselves in the service of a much bigger cause than the mere act of giving.
I however look at this as an introspective journey, in addition to the above. As we channel our resources, time, and energy into making a difference, we inadvertently explore and challenge our own values, beliefs, and aspirations. This process of self-exploration allows us to align our actions with our innermost convictions and cultivates personal growth. Giving back becomes not only an external expression of generosity, but also an avenue for inner transformation. And that is why giving with dignity is so important.
In the end, we are giving back to ourselves.
Wow, this is so profound. In such a crisp write-up you have summarized the importance of giving. and the connection to self-exploration is simply great.
