My first month at Trrain

During my ILSS Leadership Program last year, there were a few key statements that really stood out as we learned about the Social Sector:

– Compared to the Corporate Sector, the Social Sector has 10 times the complexity and one-tenth the resources.
– Social Sector needs a systemic change, not just band-aid solutions.
– There are no silver bullets to the issues in the Social Sector.

These may appear scary at the outset. And they are. However, as I complete my first month at 𝐓𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 – 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 – and trying to get a foothold about the organisation, I am not only pleased of making the transition into the sector, but also quite optimistic of my future here.

What makes me say that? Because despite its challenges and constraints, a Social Enterprise like Trrain is inherently human-centric in design and processes. At its core, the work at Trrain revolves around understanding and fulfilling the needs and aspirations of individuals who have been marginalized by the circumstances. Hence, creating solutions for them is a deeply satisfying experience.

Every learning so far has had these people at the core, and in every discussion that I have had, we have literally been immersed into the perspectives of these people in our society and often around us. It is all about creating a sustainable livelihood for them by training and empowering them despite the odds that are heavily stacked against them. And doing this at scale, without the intent of making profits, or putting any financial burden on them adds to the complexity – and hence is a more rewarding experience.

I am very certain that I have not even scratched the surface of the challenges ahead of us. But am assured that we are on a right trajectory, and we as a team will find solutions to our challenges.
