Daily writing prompt
What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?
In India, the heritage of caring for elderly family members – just as they take care of us in our tender age – reflects deep-rooted values of respect, love, and gratitude. Unlike the growing trend in some societies where seniors often face isolation and live alone, Indian families typically prioritise keeping their elders integrated into daily life, making use of their experience and skills. The act of looking after parents and grandparents, providing companionship, and ensuring they feel valued offers a sense of belonging and emotional support. This close-knit family structure not only prevents the elderly from leading lonely lives but also fosters inter-generational bonds, enriching the lives of both the young and old.
