To achieve a comprehensive victory over Australia is a dream of every other cricket team in the world; and India did just that in today’s ODI in Nagpur. With this win, the series is level at 1-1. The highlights of India’s performance was a stylish hundred by captain MS Dhoni and the excellent support he got from Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina. Praveen Kumar did his bit with the new ball with 2 quick wickets.
A big innings from Dhoni has been overdue; and he met the expectations in style. He has evolved as a batsman since his early days, when he would try to throw the willow at everything. Captaincy has matured his batting as well. He build his innings today wonderfully withoug taking risks, with Gambhir in partnership. Then the late charge followed, which was typical of his character and identity. Indian batting now revolves more around him these days, which is good for the likes of Tendulkar, who has carried the obligation for too long; and Sehwag, who can play his instinctive game without fear of losing the wicket.
Here’s hoping that India would continue with the form through the series and emerge as the better side of the two.
